Reading Log
-All 5th grade students will be required to complete a weekly reading log. -Reading logs must total 120 minutes each week. -Students may choose how they get their 120 minutes during the week. (15-20 minutes a night, 30 minutes Monday-Thursday, etc.) -Reading logs are due every Friday and are worth 5 points in the conduct grade book. -Reading logs require # of pages read, # of minutes read, summary of what was read, and parent signature. -Reading logs can include chapter books, comic books, picture books, magazines, newspapers, on-line articles, etc. -All students who complete their reading log by Friday will get to participate in a Kahoot game! Students should read every night! |

Restroom Policy
Fifth grade students are expected to use the restroom before school, during transitions (before/after specials and lab) and at lunch or recess. We do not take additional restroom breaks throughout the day
If a student has to leave the room (drink, bathroom, etc.) it will be a conduct point removed or one token.
(A student can lose up to 2 conduct points each week and still have an "A").

While 5th grade does not assign much homework throughout the year, there are some expectations at home:

Planner Policy:
Students will have be given planner pages to keep in their take home folders at the beginning of each grading period. All students will be required to use a planner for the month of August. SVCS will be using the software Canvas which features a planner tool. After August, students will have the option to continue using their paper planner or rely on the Canvas tool. Students who have a consistent problem with getting homework turned in will be put on a paper planner program and be required to get nightly parent signatures. |

COnduct and behavior policy
Conduct Grades
*Students will earn a conduct grade each week for behavior and work/study habits. *Students start each week with 20 points (an A). *Throughout the week students can lose points for behavior issues or late/missing assignments. *If a student loses more than 6 conduct marks ("C") parents will be contacted and they will have an after school detention. |
Positive Behavior Rewards
*Students can earn tokens for good behavior from any school staff member. There are many things students can buy with tokens. *Students can move up on the clip chart for showing individual good behavior. Students start on "Ready to Learn" and can earn tokens by advancing to the spots above ("Great Work", "Outstanding", and "Fabulous" *Class points can be earned when the whole class is setting a good example. 500 class points = spin on the reward wheel. |
